Everyone wants a no fuss, no muss hairstyle that is just as effortless as it looks. After all, we don’t always have the time (or the occasion!) for a high maintenance hairstyle. That’s just one of the many reasons we’re totally loving this everyday, girl-next-door look on Selena Gomez at the 2014 Variety and Women in Film Emmy Nominee Celebration. It’s charming enough to wear on the weekend, but dressed up just enough for a party, too. Plus, we love any hairstyle that’s natural looking, totally laid back and super easy to pull off!

We spoke with celebrity hairstylist Josue Perez, who has worked with A-listers like Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz and Karlie Kloss, to name a few, on how to snag Selena’s girl next door hairstyle.

The Perfect Girl-Next-Door Look: A Selena Gomez Hair Tutorial

1. Start with a great blowout. Perez says there’s no need to go to the salon as you can get a fabulous blowout at home. He recommends the Rowenta Inspiration Pro Auto Sensor Hair Dryer because “its built-in ionic generator allows the hair to dry faster without damaging hair.”

2. Once hair is nice and dry, it’s all about adding texture. Loosely curl just the ends of the hair using a wide barrel curling iron. “What makes Selena’s look so great here is that the curls aren’t perfect, they’re slightly messy,” Perez says. Use a fine tooth comb to brush out the curls and help create the “messy” look, as seen on Selena.

3. If you don’t have the length Selena has, consider popping in some hair extensions for additional volume and length, like the LUXHAIR HOW Circle Extensions. “It doesn’t use clips or adhesives and gives you extra length in just a few seconds,” Perez says.

4. Finish the look with some hairspray to hold the curls. For a soft hold finishing spry, try one of our favorites, Sebastian Professional Shaper.
